At Celonis, there’s no single path into STEM or tech, just a shared drive to make an impact.
In honor of Black History Month, we asked members of our Black @ Celonis community and allies: What inspired you to pursue a career in STEM or tech?
“It was a gradual journey over a long period of time. I've always been attracted to career fields where I can help keep people safe. After the Army, I struggled to find another career that seemed as purposeful. Being a SOC Analyst/Incident Responder is almost akin to being a fireman and police officer in a manner that my family doesn't have to worry about my safety.”
“As our lives become more and more digital, there are enormous ethical dilemmas that have arisen in terms of privacy and the use of information technology in general. I figured that instead of worrying about the encroachment of technology, I should join the field so that I can understand it better. I work in cybersecurity because I want to help keep information systems secure and private.”
“Growing up, I was always fascinated by gadgets and how they worked. I remember spending hours tinkering with my father's computer, figuring out how to fix issues or install new programs. I loved solving problems and understanding how things worked, which often led me to help friends troubleshoot their tech issues, something that always gave me a great sense of accomplishment.
Even though I didn’t study IT formally at university, my curiosity never faded. I took it upon myself to learn through online courses and hands-on practice. This self-taught journey not only fueled my passion but also taught me the power of perseverance and continuous learning in tech. Today, I’m proud to have turned that passion into a fulfilling career.”
“I've always been very into science and tech. Though I did not go to school for it, it has always been a really important part of my life. As a kid, I thought I'd be an engineer but then thought it would be too hard to break into that world, so I didn't pursue it. But I decided to change careers a few years ago because now I know that STEM needs more Black women, and just more diversity in general, and I'm glad I did.”
“I was inspired to enter the Tech career field due to my passion for problem-solving. I've always loved math and science because it challenged me to think critically and find solutions to complex problems. The Tech field allows me to channel this passion into solving real-world problems for customers. Finding innovative solutions keeps me excited to work in this field every day.”
People find their way into STEM and tech for many reasons—curiosity, a desire to help others, or a passion for innovation. At Celonis, we believe that a range of perspectives is key to shaping the future of technology.
